Millions of Stories...
A place for the geek in all of us.
Ever since I was little, and read a heap of fairy tales-I have always wanted to find the places of myth and legend that were talked about in the stories. I have travelled, not the whole world yet, but I am just getting started. A few of my travel friends decided to share places with me, and of course research with tourism companies helped as well. I put together a list of places that are filled with magic-it helps to make it a to-do!
1. castle combe, uk
I have to visit Castle Combe, near Bath in the UK. Travellers are absolutely in love with this place because of its history, and medieval look. Nestled near a lake with the ruins of ancient Rome and medieval life around it, I need to see it. The village is named after a 12th century castle, oh and it was the location for my favorite version of Dr. Doolittle from 1967. Plus,Downton Abby filmed here as well-with a place like this there are sure to be spirits roaming, and magical glens around the corner.
2.See Romans and etruscans in Castiglion,Fiorentino,Italy
The ancient walled city of Castiglion, Italy looks like gladiators and Zeus might be mingling somewhere, drinking wine with Dionysius. Filled with history, stories and tales of the fantastic-this is definitely a place worth checking out.
3. Bratislava Castle, Slovakia- where a giant lived.
Bratislava was not the first on my list, until I saw that the castle was said to have a giant in it. This beautiful place overlooks a view of three countries and the giant was tricked away a long time ago. I have to see it!
Hamburg, Germany is part of a travel list that covers all places magical in Germany. They call it the maritime pearl, because it sits on the Elba river. I can totally see Ariel flipping out of the water, and giants bathing-oh wait they already have that!
5. The GLOW-worm caves of new zeland
You have to visit the glo-worm caves, they are known for their intoxicating beauty. A place that you can definitely get lost in. The entire place is like a lost treasure, waiting only for that one explorer.
6. The beautiful city of prague
For travellers and natives alike, Prague is magical, filled with history and towers. It has to be on the list. From the Jewish quarter to the gothic spires-I definitely have to visit.
7. China's magical yangshou
Bamboo rafts, cruise down the river, near the magic mountains and rice paddies are harvested they same way they have been for centuries. They don't call it the magic mountains for nothing-this place is oozing myths, and magic. Traveling here is sure to be an experience you will never forget.
8. Magic mountain chile-a sleepover like no other.
Supposedly the mountain hotel has magic powers, and can grant wishes. It's in a Patagonian Rainforest. They even have a waterfall falling out of the roof. Straight out a story, it's a remote, beautiful place like no other. I can see myself here.
9. st. kevin the hermit's home
The founder of this abbey in Glendalough Ireland, was a hermit monk who set off on his own pilgrimage to find God, and be inspired. Angels led him to his death, and his future-there are a ton of stories about it. Supposedly, folk tales say he drowned a woman who tried to seduce him.
10. Harry Potters Scotland Tour
Scotland is know for its wilds, and of course Harry Potter locations. You can visit several of them, on a tour.
11. Have to visit game of thrones northern ireland spots
You can head to Northern Ireland, visit all of the castles from the seven kingdoms and even find makers along the way like this one. Forbidding forests, and castles, what's not to love?
12. fingal's cave in scotland-a giant home
The island of Staffa, used to have about 16 people on it in ancient legend. Built by a giant, who also stepped a toe or two in Wales, I think that it would fun to hide here.
13.North carolina's crazy appalachian mountains.
Swim, hike, listen to the mountains, and start to get back in touch with nature. It's a very spiritual place here.
14. Find an irish fairy fort
Raths, mounds of earth where the faeries retreated are all over Ireland.Circular mounds, with structures dot the Irish landscape.I have to check it out.
15. Find gnomes in denmark
Gnomes exist in Denmark, not only as statues but the people really believe that there are little people around there.
On any day, magical things are happening out there. They wait for us, and I just can't wait to see it.
