A place for the geek in all of us.
In 1952, John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara created magic with their onscreen passion and Irishness in the movie "The Quiet Man." My family loves this movie, it's a MUST WATCH. Especially in March, when St. Patty pokes his head around the corner. While the cast is only left to our memories, at least we can relive their lives at the brand new CONG TOURS in Ireland! Plan on going, and when I do I will show you EVERYTHING.
John Wayne’s widow, Josephine, wrote in the Museum’s visitor’s book – “Duke would have loved this!”.
FIrst check out the Quiet man cong.
Cong is in the middle of sweeping Irish countryside, it's the actual village where the movie was filmed in 1952. For a long time, decades actually;the area was hollow, a shell and the White O' Morn cottage a total loss. But luckily, hardcorde Quiet Man buffs like me, won't let that happen. So, Cong was created. It's located at a circular road between Lough Mask and Lough Corrib or 24 miles from Westport and Galway. It's a village, where the filming happened!!!!!!

STay at the hostel
The hostel is literally in Cong, and offers dorms, double rooms and family rooms. There is breakfast, free parking and a playground-which would be perfect for families like mine! They need to run!!! Catch your own fish, and use their Fisherman's Fridge.
Or stay at Michaleen's Manor b&b
First, Michaleen is a character from The Quiet Man. He is the first person to meet John Wayne at the train station and bring him back to the village. He is a hilarious person, love the name of the place. The bedrooms here are also character named. Besides that they can claim fame because in 2011 Maureen O'Hara came around and toured the film sites with a guide from here to give them extra information (spicy?). Then John Wayne's daughter stayed here too and according to sources said it was wonderful.
Then take the tour
The town and museum have been restored to show the film sites as they were during filming. This includes Mary Kate's (played by Maureen O'Hara) four poster bed and tables, and the emerald green half door from the movie.
The guided tour brings you to Innisfree, the Dying Man's house, Pat Cohen's bar, the Reverend Playfair's house, and more. Plus there are GHOST TOURS!
We definitely need to review this place!
KNow this travellers
If you are flying from the US then fly to Shannon (SNN) which is only 15 miles east of Ennis, IRE.
Rent a car to get to Cong, rates are about $300.
To find the ruins of White O’Morn cottage take R345 east from Cong to the Maam Bridge and the intersection with R336. Take R336 south toward Maam Cross. Watch for the first small bridge that crosses the Failmore River – a hundred yards on your right is a small turnoff and a gate. Follow the mud drive on foot for 30 yards toward the cottage.
