New France needed women
The amount of information on French Canadian women in history books amounts to little more than a few paragraphs. They show that she came over, as one of the Fille du Roi, with a dowry of 250 livres, waiting at a monastery until a suitor chose her for marriage and then she disappears into obscurity. What's more, these women rarely feature by name in most history books. Many didn't write memoirs, because they were too busy trying to survive in the wilderness.
France needed to secure land rights to their area of Canada. There were men, but no women to help truly settle the land, and make it fruitful. Jean Talon, an Intendant charged with bringing a failing colony back to life. New France was neglected by France, and it was subject to indian wars that rent their toll on the trappers, and men. Talon had to bring it back to life and he came up with the plan-bring over women.
