A place for the geek in all of us.
Recently I was searching for cheap round trip flights for my family (I have a family of 6) and came up with outrageous numbers to fly to Florida and Missouri. I was a little taken because they were out of my idea of good prices. Air travel shouldn't break the bank, but it can if we don't know how to wrangle those deals and step our proverbial heel on their necks to get them. So I have a few tips to help you score the deals like I have.
Never Go Public, Go Private.
When you search for "cheap airline tickets" simply put your browser on private browsing. The cookies in your browser are the things that are hurting you in this search. Each time I searched for "cheap florida flights" it got more expensive. If you use Google Chrome go to your Command key and hit it. Now search for your flights. If you use Mozilla then hit Command and Shift P.
Use the best flight search engines like Booking.com
Find the Best Day to Fly and be ready to grab it!
In other words try to be easy on yourself and allow yourself to fly out the day before or after your preferred date. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are the best times to fly so consider that instead of a Saturday morning flight.
Try to land or leave from a different airport
Okay, you know you like to leave from Boston, but try Harford instead because sometimes you will find that the rates are 100% cheaper.
Book flights one way, it's cheaper.
I made the mistake of trying to fly roundtrip thinking bundling would be cheaper. It was not, instead it was cheaper to fly one way, some places offer deals starting at $45 for one way tickets. So try that.
